Celebrating February: The Month of Love
Although Valentine’s Day is officially the day of love, February is considered the month of love. There are many jokes about this, asking why the month of love just happens to fall in the shortest month of the year. However, on a serious note, there are plenty of reasons why you shouldn’t let this official month of hearts and roses go ignored.
Admittedly, current restrictions due to Covid-19 will probably limit what you can do to celebrate Valentine’s Day this year. For most of us around the world, although the virus has been in our lives for more than a year now, we’ve only been social distancing and self-isolating since March 2020. Therefore, this is probably the first Valentine’s Day to be affected by the Coronavirus. That doesn’t mean that you can’t celebrate and acknowledge the occasion.
Galentine’s Day and the Importance of Self-Care
This year more than ever, it is important to recognise the benefits of self-care, rather than worrying about date nights during a pandemic. The last year has been tough on so many people. If you live alone, you have probably missed out on social interaction during the past 12 months. On the other hand, if you’ve been self-isolating at home with a house full, you might be desperately seeking some quiet “Me time” – preferably alone! That’s why it’s such a good idea to shift your focus from Valentine’s Day to Galentine’s Day this year.
People tend to think of Galentine’s Day as the alternative to Valentine’s Day, which is celebrated on the 14th February, for those who are single and perhaps don’t have dates. However, it’s a little known fact that the official date of Galentine’s Day is actually February 13th.
